Back to reality… I just got off the boat yesterday from my most wonderful week at sea… hope you didn’t miss me too much! 😉
We relaxed, I read 3 books – NONE of them business related – ate, slept, relaxed and hung with my honey. Â But now – it’s back in the saddle with my eye on SURTEX!
While I was on board, I went to a seminar about detoxification, not only did I begin to think I needed to put one of those green “Mr Ick” stickers on myself (if you have kids, you know what I mean, right???)  but I heard something I wanted to share with you…
They say KNOWLEDGE is power, they are wrong. Â ACTION is power. Â You might know what to do but if you don’t take action, it doesn’t really matter that you know it.
Of course, they were talking about nutrition but it holds true in just about any area of life – including the business of art licensing. Â You can know what you should do, but unless you take action, try it and SHOW your work to someone, you won’t ever know if licensing is a fit, will you?
Just some food for thought… are you stuck in analysis paralysis where you are learning, learning, learning but not actually doing anything? Or are you afraid to show your work because then if you are rejected, your dream of licensing your work is shattered? Â Maybe it’s better to think about the possibility and keep it in the future instead of giving it a shot?
The only way to get anywhere is to take action… every day or at least in some consistent matter. Â Are you taking action or just gathering knowledge that you may never use?
Here’s to your creative success!
– Tara Reed
Thanks, Tara! I needed that!
Yes, this so true! But just starting out, I’m not sure what the first action is. I have a made a website (yeah) but who do I show it too? Agents? Do I find manufacturers? Hmmmm?
Colleen – Start by looking at the FAQ page on this blog – it is full of information that are, well, the most frequently asked questions by artists just trying to figure this industry out. 🙂
Great insight Tara – I totally agree with this! Nothing happens with just knowledge, it takes a good deal of creating as well; and that goes for the action part, whether one is doing licensing or any other job. To create something of value and to help others, too, in the attempt, is most satisfactory in my view :). Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Tara!
Thanks. perfect.
