It’s a wrap! Four years ago in December I did my first Ask Call… this year I did my first live event… who knows what December 2016 will bring and I can’t even make my mind go there.
Yesterday, these 8 great ladies spent the day around my dining room table. They came with open minds, lots of questions and a great spirit of camaraderie. I loved sharing what I knew and listening to the questions they had about the art licensing process. Each came from a different place, artistic style and a mix of goals and visions for their creative careers.
By the end of the day, they each left with a better understanding of how to move themselves and their art from where they are to where they want to go. We talked about tackling overwhelm, staying focused and creating a framework and plan. We laughed – thankfully no one cried! – and I think the day ended with a new group of friends to support each other and help them stay accountable.
Some of the lessons I learned from my place at the table included:
Live events require a different kind of preparation but also create very different and rewarding results. More connections, more and faster understanding and a different sense of belonging… I have resisted this format in the past but thanks to this great group am open to doing it again. When that will happen and what it will look like is unclear… if you have ideas, feel free to shoot them my way or wait for me to toss some out to see if they are well received. 🙂
Each artist has a different set of personal beliefs, fears and skills that will both help and hinder them in their desire to make a living with their art. This isn’t a new concept to me – heaven knows I’ve got a trunk load of issues I’ve sorted through and more waiting to be addressed! But spending a day helping people to see their strengths and maybe peek at what might hold back their greatness was a rewarding process for me to be a part of.
Often we just need to get out of our own way. I saw first hand many of the things I’ve blogged about – the “I know I need to do that… I just never get around to it” or “I’m not sure everything is perfect so I will keep perfecting before showing any of this…” issues. We talked about how to overcome some of these things… and I’m crossing my fingers that they do!
Thank you again to all these great artists who came together and who I believe will support and cheer each other on into the future!
Here’s to your creative success!
