I’ve followed Barney Davey on Twitter for quite some time and we were both a part of the smARTist Telesummit last year.  His depth of knowledge and understanding of the art print market is second to none.

I have been going through the review copy of his book – How to Profit From the Art Print Market* and find it to be a great resource.  Not only do I have a better understanding of the art print market but much of what he talks about is relevant to any artist in business.  If you license your art, self-publish prints, sell through Etsy, art fairs and more – there is great advice in this book to help you grow your business.

[hana-code-insert name=’Barney Davey Affiliate link’ /] The book covers these topics and more:

  • understanding the art print market
  • the economics and what it takes to be a successful self-published artist
  • finding and working with a publisher
  • copyrights and certificates of authenticity
  • trends and inspiration
  • websites, blogging and social media
  • selling through galleries, dealers and alternative spaces

There is even a chapter on Licensing and you can imagine that I was beyond excited to see my name and this blog in print! (p. 248)

In addition to the book (it’s a physical book that you will get by mail if you choose to purchase it) for a limited time you will also get an eBook titled, “How to Price Digital Fine Art Prints”.

Here’s the bottom line:  I wasn’t sure how much I would get out of this book, personally, since I have an art publisher that I license my art to and my focus is on licensing.  I was very happy to find a lot of great ideas and insights that I can apply to my business.  I think this is another great resource that every artist serious about growing a business should have on their bookshelf.
