“Please be patient – we are experiencing technical difficulties…” that was one theme last night but it didn’t stop the wonderful and understanding artists that were on the line for the Ask About SEO for Artists call! We got through the call but decided to re-record today for clarity.
Of course the technical difficulties persisted as the follow-up email went out before I wanted it to (don’t ask!) so I apologize if you get 2 of those as well. Hopefully all the technical issues will be done in this 24 hours and it will be smooth sailing for a while!
Here is what we covered –
- What is SEO?
- Can I optimize SEO if I didn’t create my own website?
- 3 key aspects to help your website rank well in search engines
- Are the “Buzz Words” (keywords) the most important part of optimizing your website?
- How to choose keywords.
- How do you optimize for more than 1 or 2 keywords?
- How are blogs searched and what part of the blog (title, text, etc) is most important for SEO?
- How to get links to your blog and why all links aren’t created equal.
- Can you optimize for store sites like Zazzle and CaféPress?
- How do I stand out from others using the same keywords or terms?
- If I’m revamping my art and website, what steps should I take to optimize the site for search engines?

The system that was the basis for the free call is “The Artist SEO System” by Daniel Tardent.
If you’re like many, you might still be thinking about buying this guide in 12 months – and think of all the website traffic you will have missed. Grab the opportunity now and make your website do it’s job and help your career!
This product is never discounted because it is high-value & very targeted towards the unique needs of artists. If it was focused on regular small business it would cost $500 or more.
The Artist SEO System is $97, a great investment if you want to maximize the value of your website. I have a lot of SEO knowledge and still found things to help me improve my site SEO even more. I highly recommend you consider this…

P.S. During the call, we promised to give you two things: my “5 Tips to get Links to Your Website ” and the link to the GOOGLE KEYWORD RESEARCH TOOL.
Thank you for the nice article about SEO..
feel free to visit my site for more SEO blogs.. helpfulguy
It seemed like an informative call from what I did hear. Who would have thought that there existed a “search engine sandbox”? Looking forward to hearing the rest of it when you post it Tara. Thanks for everything!
Xenos – it is done! Ready! Good to go! Check your inbox or the link on the post – just as good the second time around… 😉
Hi Tara,
The talk between you and David was very informative and I did come away with a couple of SEO tips that I already implemented in my website. I am finally getting into my head that SEO means Search Engine Optimization. English is my second language… and all those acronyms become like a third language I must learn! Thank you for all your work and willingness to share.
Awesome Leyla! Way to take action! Now did you read my “5 tips” yet? Add your full name and website when you comment – link love – happy to give it to anyone who leaves a legitimate comment!
And the acronyms are confusing to me too at first so don’t feel bad!
Thank you Tara and Daniel for great resource! Sorry I couldn’t make it to the call, too pre-occupied recently….
Anyway, I just wrote a blog post about actually seeing how SEO works “SEO for Artists Example” after it took me awhile to really see it works…. you can read it here: http://www.mikanovsky.com/blog/2010/02/19/seo-for-artists-example/
Thanks

Tara, the link to “5 Tips to get Links to Your Website” that you posted in the PS part of your entry is turning an “error” message. Perhaps you want to check it? Cheers.
Tara,
I do all my own SEO for my blog and for others and there are tools that you can add to wordpress blogs and this kind of information is free. I clicked on the link which took me to the landing page and then on to the website but did not see any affiliate sign up link. So where is the affiliate link?
SUPER SUPER SUPER! That’s all I can say! I originally didn’t think I’d listen to this Ask Call, as I have so much on my plate as it is (doing actual art and meeting deadlines, etc.) – and “technical” computer stuff usually just confuses the heck out of me – because they talk “over your head computer-speak” – but I thought, what the heck – I can always pass along any tips to whoever I find to do my computer work … but OMG, I never expected to get this much out of Daniel’s call! I understood EVERY WORD! He makes it so simple to understand! And to think — I spent hundreds on supposed “promotion” companies who claimed to submit you to X amount of search engines – numerous times over a certain amount of time, fix your meta tags, get you X amount of reciprocal links, etc… and NONE of what they CLAIMED I needed (and what I paid for) was in Daniel’s top 3 for SEO!! Unbelievable!
Wish I would have heard of Daniel and his program years ago! Thank you Tara & Daniel! I’ll be telling everyone I know about your program Daniel!
P.S. One question I did have after listening was – I’ve been told you’re not suppose to REPEAT words in your keyword or metatag section — is this true? Like primitive art, whimsical art, primitive patterns, etc. — those would have duplicate words.
Sue,
Thanks for the wonderful compliments! To answer your P.S. question:
First of all, a general disclaimer! The only people who fully know how the search engine algorithyms (I can’t remember how to spell that this afternoon!) make their analysis are the people who program them – and the methods are constantly changing.
That said, here is my opinion on your question: It comes back to what I said on the call – search engines are looking for natural behavior. If you continuously repeat keywords on a page it could be characterized as “keyword spam” and not work well for you. But then on the other hand, you need to have enough “keyword density” for a given keyword on a page for it to be noted as an important keyword for the page. Keyword density is a whole world that you probably don’t want to get into!
I think that if you focus on the “natural behavior” concept and keep things in balance you should be OK.
Daniel.
Arthur,
Great point – It’s true that WordPress has some great SEO features and plugins. We use it ourselves in a number of our websites. However two things:
1. Not everyone wants to use WP for their artist website – there are thousands of great website platforms on the market, each with its own strengths and weaknesses.
2. In our experience, the key to success comes first from understanding the problem or the need and then using the tools to solve the problem.
Our SEO product was designed to explain the basics to a broad spectrum of artists at different levels of technical understanding. They can then go use any platform they choose and have a good basis for their SEO success.
Daniel.
Thanks Tara for the helpful information. Sorry I missed the call last week but the day got away from me. Your 5 tips were great!
