As we brace ourselves to ring in 2014, I find myself in my usual end-of-the-year reflective mood.  Equal parts thinking about 2013 and anticipating and planning for 2014.

My natural instinct is often to focus on what I want to achieve or do or be moving forward without enough time spent acknowledging what has been done and accomplished in the past and present.  I can’t believe that I’m the only one with the pesky “Yeah but…” voice in my head.  Someone might say something like, “Wow!  Look what you did!” and that voice immediately says “Yeah, but you didn’t get THIS part done…” – stealing the spotlight and happy feeling of what has been done and acknowledged.

Well I for one am TIRED OF THAT VOICE!  Some may feel it encourages them to do and be more, I feel it does more harm than good.  Life is about feeling good, being joyful and offering that to others.  If we constantly second guess or berate ourselves, how is that helpful?

Instead of making the normal resolutions to lose 50 lbs (although I’ll take it if it comes along!) I’m going to focus on being happy and quieting the voices that try to make me feel less-than.

An exercise I started a few months ago in my training with Tiffany Peterson has helped with this and I will continue it into the new year.  Focus on the NEW & GOOD, acknowledge the WINS.  Wake up and count your blessings.  Share the things you are grateful for first thing in the morning with your spouse.  End your day by giving yourself a few “atta girl!”s about what you did great that day.  Whatever way resonates with you – make it a daily routine.

Today I invite you to join me in creating a “Wins of 2013” list.

Spend a few moments and write down all the things you did that you are proud of in 2013.  It can be anything – big or small.  Think about relationships you have nurtured or healed, business successes, fun trips, new habits and more.  You might be surprised at what you come up with and happy with how it makes you feel!

What have you done or accomplished with your art?  Have you worked on your portfolio to make it art licensing friendly?  Have you gotten a new deal? Started an online store on Etsy, Zazzle, CafePress or your own site?  Have you made new connections that make you feel inspired and support you to learn and grow?  WRITE IT DOWN!

Here’s to acknowledging the good and great of 2013 and setting the intention of an amazing 2014 ahead!
