John Asley, Esq, the chief manager and supervisor of the United States Copyright Office visual arts division, offers his review and perspective the copyright process. He manages a staff of about 30 experts on visual arts copyright, and all copyright claims based on visual arts are examined and decided in his division. John’s entire federal career has been with the Copyright Office’s Visual Arts, so he brings tremendous expertise in this area. He clarifies issues regarding filing for copyright, “published” versus “unpublished” works, what constitutes a collection, and statutory legal rights with copyrights.
