As I sat organizing questions for my free, monthly "Ask Tara Reed" about art licensing call, I found myself saying, "There it is!" The "Where do I start?" question. "How do I know if my art will work for licensing?" question. Without fail, I get this question each and every month. And it is a good question - don't get me wrong.
The day I decided to share what I know about this business I said one of my goals was to show people the reality of the business from the start - so no one wastes a lot of time and energy if it isn't going to be a good fit for them.
Let's face it. There are so many ways to make money with art. A little money or a lot. Art licensing is just one way. And like everything else, there are the good and bad sides to the business.
So as I sat reading the same question for the 10th month in a row it finally hit me...

I have been licensing my art since 2004. I started from scratch with no agent, no contacts and little idea what I was doing. I have now worked with more than 30 different companies and my income has grown every year. (Yes, even in "this economy".) Armed with a tenacious spirit, degree in marketing, some sales experience and a growing portfolio I have navigated the sometimes confusing waters of art licensing.
In creating the website "ArtLicensingInfo.com" - my goal was to share what I have learned, and what other industry experts want to share, with people wanting to learn about the art licensing industry. Well...
