Sometimes things don’t go the way we expect… we don’t get what we want… as the old saying goes,
The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry.
– phrase adapted from a poem by Robert Burns
You think you have things figured out – you have a vision, you have a plan, you have goals and then life throws you a curve ball. It could be a good curve ball like a different and interesting opportunity or it could be a less-than-good curve ball in the form of rejection, personal challenges, illness and more.
I’ve certainly had my shares of twists and turns in life. Did I think I would grow up and be an artist? No way! I’ve tried all sorts of things in my journey to here –
- textbook sales rep
- cake decorator
- direct marketing book sales
- stay-at-home mom
- and more…
I’ve moved many times, been married and divorced and recently remarried (second time is going to be the charm!). We’ve had personal and medical challenges in my family, babies, graduations, adventures, laughs and tears. I’m sure there will be many, many more twists and turns to come.
Some days I hear myself wishing to KNOW what was going to come…
I’d feel less anxious if I KNEW how a situation might resolve itself or if that big opportunity that has had me working late nights was going to come through… but we just don’t have a crystal ball. I just try to live in the present and make the best choices I can with the information I have – and trust that what comes is what I’m meant to be or be doing or experiencing in the moment.
This is a great song that points out that if all the things he thought he’d wanted in the past had happened, he wouldn’t be where he is today. Completely true for everyone I know. Just a little song-for-thought today –
Here’s to your creative success and success in going with the flow of your life –
