[hana-code-insert name=’Pattern Observer’ /] Over the past few weeks I’ve been participating in a great eCourse from Michele Fifs of PatternObserver.com entitled “Building Your Textile Design Business“.

One of my favorite things in the world is to create repeat patterns to go with my art collections.  I’ve been designing quilting fabric for over 5 years and just love the process… but because I’ve come to my business through the door of “art licensing” – where I create collections that have patterns as a PART of them, I’ve always wanted to better understand the world of SURFACE DESIGN – that is based almost entirely of patterns.

Since I have licensed my designs from day 1 I have no real answer when an artist asks me how they should price a design or pattern that they want to sell outright.  Having no real experience with this way of doing business, I’d pretty much be the blind leading the blind…

Thanks to this great eCourse I have a much better understanding of the Surface Design business – from licensing to selling outright into apparel and textile markets and more!

Michelle has really got her ducks in a row and created a course that will help you understand the process and decide what you want to do with your business.  From written material to video tutorials and links to resources as well as inspirational talks – this is fantastic!   From how to create, price and present your work so you can build a business that will stand the test of time.  Michelle delivers the information over 8 weeks in very digestible and organized modules, complete with a checklist of what to do to implement the ideas into your business.

If you are interested in selling your art outright or doing a combination of licensing and selling, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you check out this course.

Did you know that about 25% of the SURTEX show consists of companies selling patterns and design outright – I have always been intrigued yet thoroughly confused about how they do business -not anymore!  Knowledge is power – it helps you be deliberate with your art business and helps you avoid costly mistakes and decrease your learning curve.  I am really enjoying more about this part of the art and design industry and thinking about how these concepts can help me – you should too…

Enough of me telling you how much I like this eCourse – you can decide for yourself.  Click here* to get more details.

Here’s to your creative success!
