"How to Find An Art Licensing Agent" is for artists who have decided that they want to focus on creating their art and find an agent to take care of the business side of things.
From the eDesk of Tara Reed,
Licensed Artist
(Portland, Oregon)
Dear Fellow Licensed Artist,
Writing a book about agents has been something I’ve considered for a while. But since I don’t have an agent, I worried that I wouldn’t have what it took to make it a helpful and effective resource. But the more I thought about it, I decided that finding an agent is similar to finding manufacturers who license art. You have to “sell yourself” and I know how to do that!
I also decided to put myself in the mindset of looking for an agent or helping a coaching client find an agent. What would I do and what would I advise others to do? That is what the core of this book is about.
To make it even more useful, I decided to reach out and get more perspectives. Throughout the book you will see informational boxes. Anything that isn’t in a box is written by me.
From the Agent’s Perspective will give you just that – the perspective of an individual agent in response to some questions I asked. These are reprinted as they were received and will give you a glimpse into the thinking of that particular agent. Their contact information is included if you decide they might be a fit for you.
I also asked a few manufacturers for their perspectives on using an agent and working with them from their point of view. Several wanted to remain anonymous – they thought they could speak more freely that way. You will find their feedback in the From the Manufacturer’s Perspective boxes.
Keep in mind that finding an agent doesn’t mean you don’t have to know anything about the business of art licensing. Agents want artists who understand that their art needs to work on products at the bare minimum. There is a glossary at the end of the book for some key terms used in the industry. Also be sure to read the blog (www.ArtLicensingBlog.com), listen to the free monthly Ask Calls (www.artlicensinginfo.com/audio-archives.html) and learn what you can about the industry. This will help you create art that is more marketable and understand how to better support the efforts of your soon-to-be agent.
Here’s to your creative success!

"How to Find an Art Licensing Agent, has insightful information and I love how you interviewed several different agents for their input... that is the most valuable part of the e-book I think, although, it's ALL very helpful information and it's hard to say what is the most valuable part!
Thank you again for seeking out and sharing your valuable knowledge with the rest of us!"
